As an American, you may have an opportunity to create a public service announcement that will send out a tailored message to those in your community. By definition a public service announcement is any free announcement broadcast on television or radio to inform the community on events, programs, and general information. Typically, these announcements are non commercial by nature. Also, you do not have to be affiliated with a non-profit organization to create a public service announcement.

Public service announcements are not guaranteed under any law. Radio and television stations have sole control over, whose message they broadcast. However, it is in the station's best interest to run public service announcements because they must be able to prove to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that they are serving their community. Understand that air waves are essentially owned by the American people; consequently, Americans have the right to object to the renewal of a company's license if they feel that company is not serving their interest.
